After many long hours spent remodeling the facility, the rink was officially re-opened to the public on October 8, 2021. One year later, a private owner turned their passion for ice sports into reality and purchased the facility. Sadly, with Covid-19 hitting many businesses throughout the area, the rink succumbed to pandemic restrictions and closed once again in March of 2020. Throughout the years, the rink was closed and reopened multiple times. Opened in 2006, the rink sits on a 4-acre property, with a backdrop of the beautiful Colorado National Monument and crossing through the Riverside Trail. It was purchased by the Koos family a few years later. River City Sportplex was originally founded in 1996 by a group from the Grassroots Organization in Grand Junction.
